In a recent TV ad, they are quoting Clint at a 2nd Amendment rally in Olympia, telling people to “stockpile food and ammunition” to build a case that Clint is an extremist.
Because they’ve been unable to shrink Clint’s polling numbers by running “attack” ads, thus far, the west side establishment is now so desperate that they have brought out the grandfather of our state’s RINOs (Republican In Name Only), Former Senator Slade Gorton. Gorton recently formed “America’s Future PAC” for the express purpose of attacking Clint. Slade Gorton’s effort is their last-ditch effort to derail Clint’s broad support throughout the 4th Congressional District.
Says Clint:
“Anyone who lives out here in the rural area knows that we have to be ready for
anything. The weather can leave us stranded for days. I believe that thousands of people were hurt far more than they should have been in catastrophic events like Katrina or Hurricane Sandy if they had only been prudent and prepared by having a cache of food and other necessities. There are hundreds of preparedness companies in America who help citizens do just that. There is nothing extreme about it. Overall, we simply live in a time of roving terrorism that requires prudence on the part of all families.
Second, in the wake of ever-increasing legislative proposals aimed at weakening law-abiding citizens’ right to own personal arms, I’m pushing back along with millions of other Americans against today’s assaults on our 2nd Amendment rights. History shows when citizens in any country allow themselves to be disarmed, tyranny is always the end result. Events of this past century bear this out in nations like Germany, Italy, Cuba, the former Soviet Union and Red China Each began their path into communism, fascism and despotism when citizens surrendered their right to own personal firearms. With the rise of terrorism in the past several decades, and increasing “lone” attacks here at home, our ability to carry arms is even more important.
Our founding fathers, who were well studied in world history, believed the same and stated this belief clearly – statements you almost never hear in the mainstream press and academe. Below are only a few of these quotes, but literally hundreds can be found with a simple Internet search, including a brief study of the Federalist Papers.
"The beauty of the Second Amendment is that it will not be needed until they try to take it." Thomas Jefferson
“Americans have the right and advantage of being armed, unlike the people of other countries, whose leaders are afraid to trust them with arms.” James Madison
“Guard with jealous attention the public liberty. Suspect everyone who approaches that jewel. Unfortunately, nothing will preserve it but downright force. Whenever you give up that force, you are ruined… The great object is that every man be armed. Everyone who is able might have a gun.” Patrick Henry
My opponent and his minions like Gorton, are using every establishment trick in the book to smear me – even using all of the typical Democrat campaign ploys. This ought to alarm true Republicans.
Finally, as far as Slade Gorton is concerned he has now decided to make this personal. So be it. Can anyone remember one thing (besides his “no” vote on Clinton’s impeachment) that is noteworthy in his tenure as a Republican US Senator? If the chief principle of all Republican Party platforms, and our primary objective is our common belief in limited government in order to preserve liberty, then Gorton failed the party and this state miserably. Because, the fact is on his watch he voted to grow taxes, budgets and the size and scope of government - time and again. That is his true legacy and it needs to be said. It is this prevailing behavior among GOP leaders that has kept us from achieving anything substantive when in power, and It’s what caused me to run to be your Congressman.”
In one of his latest TV spots, Dan Newhouse is trying to convince voters that Clint Didier wants people to pay double into social security.
Dan Newhouse has now taken a clip of something I said and is using it in his ads to make it sound like I want people to pay double into social security.
Nothing could be further from the truth.
I’ve said from the beginning that I’m not a professional politician – that I talk to you from the heart, instead of carefully developed and rehearsed talking points the way professional politicians like Newhouse. So, sometimes I’m NOT always as articulate as I would like to be. This is what I was trying to say, and believe:
I’m worried that young people are going to have to pay into the social security system – and then it will collapse – meaning that they will ALSO have to pay to fund their own retirement. That’s the DOUBLE PAY I was trying to explain. The fact is, the trust fund created so many years ago was long ago spent by irresponsible politicians, leaving it to where, in essence, we are already paying twice – once to cover those now on SSA and, hopefully, for our individual SSA account upon our own retirement. If the fund would have been kept separate, earning interest, the odds are that today people who have paid into it would be getting a larger return on their contributions. As it is now, individuals are getting COLA increases that do not keep up with real living cost and inflation increases.
I have made it clear many times during this campaign that I believe we have an obligation to everyone who has paid into and are dependent upon Social Security to see to it that they receive this guarantee that they’ve earned for as long as they live, or their dependents under the current rules. It is a sacred trust that must be honored. (Please scroll down to see full response to Lie #1 below)
My opponent is using every establishment trick in the book to smear me. Remember, if someone knows the truth, but twists it to his own benefit, it becomes a lie. Dan knows that I would never suggest such as this silly scenario he is trying to make people believe.
“The Didier campaign is bringing in people from Washington DC special interest groups from around the country to spread lies about Dan Newhouse”
Dan Newhouse’s latest email attack piece tries to make it sound like I’m coordinating Washington DC special interest groups to send in people from around the country to ‘do my work for me.’
NOT TRUE!
First, the only people we know about are our own volunteers in Yakima County – these Yakima grassroots activist citizens have knocked on thousands of doors to support me. So what may be upsetting Dan is that people from his own backyard – NOT “DC OUTSIDERS AS HE CLAIMS - are turning out for me.
Second, we have no knowledge of anyone sending people here – and even if they do choose to campaign for me, they are doing it on their own. In fact, THE LAW ACTUALLY PREVENTS ME FROM COORDINATING WITH OUTSIDE GROUPS - AND DAN NEWHOUSE KNOWS THAT. (Does he really believe I would break the law just to get elected?) So if they call him a “liberal wolf in conservative sheep’s clothing,” then they came to that conclusion on their own.
And finally – and this is REALLY important -- the groups that support me that Dan may be talking about are grassroots tea party and liberty groups – like Campaign for Liberty or Young Americans for Liberty. Wow—tells you a lot about Dan Newhouse that he thinks a grassroots group representing “We the People” is a “special interest” in his world view. But he thinks it’s ok for his campaign to be funded by chemical giants Monsanto, Dow & DuPont. Unbelievable. |
